DNA Forensic Analysis Reports

September 1, 2021 - There are currently three forensic report results on the examination of the DNA in the Ramsey murder case. The three different entities are:

1.     The Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Report date January 15, 1997.

2.     Cellmark Labs. Report date May 1997

3.     The Bode Technology Touch DNA reports.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Cellmark Labs reports were the baselines for establishing the DNA in the Ramsey case including the presence of an Unknown Male #1.  Both labs tested the same material from blood in JonBenét panties and under her fingernails and had the same results.

The two 1997 DNA reports were submitted for admission into CODIS in 2003. CODIS is the FBI database for DNA profiles.

The CODIS database has stringent standards for DNA to be admitted into its database. Those standards were achieved by the two 1997 DNA analysis reports in the JonBenét Ramsey case.

The 2008 Touch DNA analysis, at the time a new testing process, used areas of possible touch from clothing and items like the ligature used to strangle JonBenét to determine if there were skin cells left for DNA examination. One of the items of clothing submitted for the 2008 Touch DNA yielded results. DNA was found on JonBenét’s Long Johns. They were tested inside and outside on both sides of the waistband. That DNA "matched" the DNA from the two 1997 tests.

Other clothing was submitted for Touch DNA examination in 2008, but it was only found on her Long Johns.

There is another DNA test that could be done but as of August of 2021, the technology hasn't been used in the case. That's a genetic comparison DNA test utilizing the remaining DNA left in the case.

That DNA is in the custody of Boulder Police and two officers who have been on the case since the beginning. They have not responded to any of my questions about why they will not submit the remaining DNA for genetic testing.

Genetic DNA traces family histories for DNA similarities, then eliminates and narrows down remaining possibilities. It has been used successfully in cold cases, including the Golden State serial killer and rapist.
